Build A Basketball Dynasty Position Fits
Roll for the empty slot. Overall is a tie-breaker, not a position.
Every pack in Build A Basketball Dynasty stamps a position. The Starting 5 wants one of each. This page is the position-by-position fit list that the Starting 5 tier assumes you already believe.
Point guard
Start a creator. If the watched game shows 2 assists and 18 shots, you started a shooting guard with a PG tag. Keep a true PG even at lower overall until ranked opponents stop trapping your only ball-handler.
Bench: extra PGs that do not shoot or defend. They are Index ticks, not a two-PG lineup unless one is a giant.
Roll priority: high until you own one starter-quality creator.
Shooting guard
Start a wing who can score without 30 dribbles. Second job is chasing the opponent’s best perimeter card. A 99 SG that hides on defense is a league luxury and a ranked leak.
Bench: a microwave scorer you can swap in if the starter is ice-cold in a playoff game you are watching.
Small forward
The swing slot. Best SFs in a sim are two-way: enough size to bump, enough shot to punish help. Official 99 SF art is this fantasy. If your SF is a fourth guard, your PF is about to play 1-on-2.
Roll priority: after PG and C are filled.
Power forward
The most misused slot. People start a second Center who cannot space, or a second SF who cannot rebound. A good four does dirty work: boards, fouls, screens. Overall can be a band lower than your wings if the role is honest.
If you lucked into a unicorn four who shoots, congratulations — that is A/S material. Do not require it.
Center
Start a rebounder. Paint finishes are a bonus. A Center who lives at the three-point line turns every miss into a run-out against you. Empty Center is the worst hole in the game; fill it with an 82 before you buy a 97 wing.
Empty-slot emergency ranking
If you must queue with a weak card, this is the least-bad missing piece to the most-bad:
- Least bad: backup-quality SG (your SF can hide some of it).
- Weak PF (ugly, still five bodies).
- Weak SF.
- Weak PG (offense dies).
- Weak or empty C (possessions die).
Never queue ranked with a literal empty slot. League can teach. Ranked will not.
Dual-position cards
If a card lists two positions, start it in the hole, not in the glamour slot. A PG/SG who creates belongs at PG if your PG is the problem. Do not chase the higher overall tag into a duplicated role.
Shinies do not change position. A Shiny GOAT SG is still an SG. Shiny cards cover upgrades; this page covers the stamp on the card.
How to use this while rolling
Before you tap Open, name the hole out loud: “I need a Center.” If the pack is a 96 SG and you already start a 94 SG, it is Index plus maybe a bench microwave. It is not a reason to demolish a functional five. Getting Started is brutal about this for a reason.
After each session, list the five positions on paper. If any line is blank or duplicated, that is tomorrow’s pack target. Overall hunting is what you do when the paper is clean.
Play league to verify a new position fit. The sim will tell you faster than a comment section.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which position should I fill first?
Empty Center, then PG, then the rest. Empty C is the worst ranked hole.
Can a high OVR SG play PG?
Only if they actually create. Watch a game. If assists are tiny, it is a SG.
Is PF just a small Center?
No. A statue five at the four leaves you with no bump-and-space. Keep the jobs different.
Where is the overall-band table?
On the tier list hub. This page is jobs, not numbers.
