Build A Basketball Dynasty How to Climb Ranked

Ranked in Build A Basketball Dynasty is the ladder added in the mid-August badge pass. You are not shooting over a park god; your Starting 5 plays another GM’s Starting 5. The Ranked Victor badge pops on the first win. Separate badges exist for Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, and Legend. Legend’s description is literally “The ultimate dynasty.” This guide is how to move up without donating a week of MMR to a 3-man lineup.

Ranks, in the order the badges use

Counts on the live badges are small at the top (low double digits for Legend at snapshot). That is good news: you are not fighting a million-player Elo swamp. It is also a warning: every queue at Elite is a tryhard.

Do not queue until this list is green

Use the ranked checklist if you want a short version. The long version:

1. All five positions filled — no “I’ll just play four.”
2. At least one league series so you have seen the five on both ends. Win a league first if you have never simmed a final.
3. Team OVR in a range you would screenshot, not hide. Mid-80s is a reasonable Gold start; Diamond wants more.
4. A creator, a wing shooter, a rim presence. Read positions.
5. No experimental “all dunkers” meme five. Save memes for league.

If any line is red, you are practicing ranked with other people’s time. They will not be kind.

How a ranked match feels

You pick Play on Ranked from the lobby. Matchmaking looks for another complete-enough club. The sim runs. You can watch or skip depending on client options that week. A win ticks the ladder; a loss ticks it down. Ranked Victor only cares about the first checkmark.

Because both sides are player-built, countering the meta matters more than in league. If the lobby is full of three-point spam fives, your next roll should hunt a wing stopper, not a fourth iso scorer. The Starting 5 tier is a default, not a law.

Climbing without burning out

• Play sets of three, then stop if you dropped two. Tilt rolls create worse fives.
• Swap one card per losing set, not five. Science needs a control.
• Spend codes on the hole that just got exposed, not on a random luck binge.
• A Shiny on the wrong position is still the wrong position. Shiny cards explain when to force them in.
• Elite and Legend are weekend projects. Gold and Platinum can be a weeknight.

When you stall

Stalling at Platinum is almost always a missing role, not “bad luck.” Open the last five box scores (mental notes are fine) and circle the category you lost: threes, paint, turnovers. Upgrade that slot using packs or a card you already hid in the Index. Completing the Index sometimes reveals a perfectly good 88 you forgot you owned.

Stalling at Diamond/Elite is OVR plus Shiny tax. Other GMs have lucked into upgrades. You can still beat them with fit, but you cannot beat them with 12 overall points of deficit and a hole at PG.

After Legend

Legend is a badge, not an end of the product. Keep collecting, chase 100 Team OVR for Perfect Team, and farm more league banners. The ranked ladder will reset or inflate when UPD2 lands — watch updates. Do not delete the five that got you here until you screenshot it.

Queueing while angry is how Legend players gift you a win. Be the GM who only queues with a complete clipboard. That habit is worth more than one extra pack.
