Getting Started in Build A Basketball Dynasty
Roll, build, play — in that order — before you touch ranked.
Your first session in Build A Basketball Dynasty should end with a full Starting 5 and at least one league game, not a maxed shop tab. The Welcome badge text is the whole loop: Roll, Build, Play, and most importantly have fun. This guide turns that slogan into a checklist you can finish in an hour on phone or PC.
Minute 0–10: account setup
- Open the official experience.
- Like the game and join L3vi Studio’s. The description asks for both; later codes and update shouts use that group.
- Finish the intro camera. Do not skip so fast that you miss the Codes and Packs buttons on the right HUD.
- Check codes. If the table is empty, move on — do not sit in the Codes window.
You do not need Robux to start. Free packs and the first roll currency are enough to field five cards. Spend Robux later, after you know which position is actually empty.
Minute 10–30: roll with a purpose
Open packs until every slot has a body: PG, SG, SF, PF, Center. Overall on a card matters, but an empty Center with a 94 shooting guard duplicate is how new accounts stall at 70 Team OVR.
Priority while rolling:
- One card per position before any duplicate.
- A passer at PG if the rest of your pulls are scorers.
- A rebound/rim presence at C or PF so league AI does not bully the paint.
- Ignore cosmetics and flex Shiny hunts until the five slots glow as filled.
Rarity language (base → Shiny → Shiny GOAT) is unpacked on player rarities. For hour one, “highest OVR that fits the hole” beats “coolest name.”
Build the Starting 5, then watch a real roster get made
Assign cards to the lineup. Team OVR on the lobby (the art even shows a 98 OVR TEAM badge in official thumbnails) is a weighted mix of those five, not your whole collection. A bench full of 99s does nothing until they start.
The video below is a full session of someone assembling a competitive five in this exact game. Pause it when they swap a position you are stuck on, then copy the idea — not necessarily the same names, because pack luck differs.
After the video: compare your five against the Starting 5 tier list and position fits. If you have three isolation scorers and no creator, sim league anyway — you need badge progress more than a perfect theorycraft on day one.
Minute 30–50: play a league, not ranked
Queue a league game first. Ranked is how you eat a loss streak with a 72 OVR club. League AI teaches tempo: when your PG actually finds the shooter, when the Center crashes, when a 2-3 look from the opponent dries up threes.
You can watch possessions or sim to the horn. Watching a quarter teaches you whether your five has a hole; simming the rest of the season is fine once you have seen one ugly box score. The league championship guide explains how to convert that into the League Champion badge (about 9% of players have it — uncommon, not mythical).
Do not buy a ranked ticket until:
- All five positions are filled.
- You have won at least a handful of league games.
- You have read the ranked climb ranks (Gold through Legend).
Minute 50–60: log goals, then log off or grind Index
Write three numbers: Team OVR, league record, and how many Index cards you own. Tomorrow’s session is “raise the lowest of those three,” not “open packs until broke.”
Optional end-of-hour tasks:
- Pin the OVR planner if you are anywhere near a big overall jump.
- Skim UPD1 so you know ranked badges exist.
- If a pack left you with a near-GOAT, read Shiny GOAT before you trade it.
Common first-hour mistakes
- Rolling 40 packs into one position because a YouTuber showed that star.
- Entering ranked with two empty slots.
- Ignoring the group, then asking why a code failed.
- Deleting duplicates that still count for the Index.
- Chasing scripts on day one — read safety if you were about to.
The Welcome badge is the easy one (it awards to essentially everyone who loads in). Treat it as a receipt that you spawned, not as a skill check. The real first trophy is a league banner or a Starting 5 you are not ashamed to screenshot.
When the hour is up, you should know where Packs, Codes, Index, League, and Ranked live. If you still cannot find Ranked, open How to play next — that page is the HUD manual this page refused to become.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Do I need Robux in the first hour?
No. Fill five positions with free packs first. Spend Robux after you know which slot is the actual hole.
Should I play ranked immediately?
No. Win league games first. Ranked starts at Gold and punishes empty lineups. See how to climb ranked.
What does Team OVR use?
Your Starting 5, not the whole collection. Details in the Team OVR planner.
Where is the trailer?
The official Levi_CG trailer is on the home page. This guide embeds a team-building session instead.
